| The Basic Skills Department consists of five program areas including: Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult High School (AHS), Compensatory Education (CED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and General Educational Development (GED).
There are unique requirements for minor students (16 or 17 years old). Please call the Basic Skills office at 252-222-6195 for additional information.
A placement assessment is required prior to enrollment in any of the Basic Skills programs. The assessments are offered Mondays at 10 am; Tuesdays at 2 pm; and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm (by appointment).
Basic Skills classes for ABE, CED, and GED are open enrollment classes whereby a student can enter at any time.
Classes for AHS and ESL have established beginning dates and ending dates. Please call the Basic Skills office at 252-222-6195 for upcoming start dates.
All Basic Skills classes are free. Books and materials will be supplied in class.
