The purpose of the Adult High School Diploma Program, established through a mutual agreement between the Carteret County Board of Education and Carteret Community College, is to provide testing, guidance, and instruction which will enable the adult student to complete the requirements for and be awarded an Adult High School Diploma. All courses will be offered in a classroom situation with classes meeting on the semester system. Classes are offered daytime and evenings. An instructor will be present at all times to direct classroom activities whether subject matter is presented through the use of programmed material, lecture method, or computer assisted. The program of instruction is intended for adults. Any person 18 years of age or older who is not enrolled in public school is eligible to enroll in the program. Persons between 16 and 18 will be enrolled only upon recommendation of an approval committee of the school district to which the student is assigned and required to complete 1,848 contact hours. Under no circumstances can anyone under 16 years of age be enrolled. Anyone under 18 years of age must meet with their High School Guidance Counselor to obtain a permission form. Anyone under 18 years of age enrolling from outside of Carteret County must see the Student Services Director at the Carteret County Board of Education Office. All students will be tested to determine their eligibility to enter Adult High School Diploma courses. Those not eligible may enroll in ABE instruction and eventually re-apply for the Adult High School Diploma Program.
