Borrowing Policies

Students, college faculty/staff, and residents of Carteret County who are 16 or older, may check out library materials. You will need to fill out a registration card located at the Circulation Desk and show a driver's license or picture ID.

Library materials may be returned to the Circulation Desk or to the book drop at the curb in front of the Michael J. Smith Learning Resources Center. The exceptions are any audiovisual materials (films, audiobooks, etc.); these must be returned to the Circulation Desk. Patrons may also return library materials by mail.

**Students cannot register for classes, receive grades or transcripts until they have returned and paid for any overdue materials. Borrowers who have overdue materials will not be allowed to check out additional items until the overdue fines have been paid.

Overdue notices are a courtesy of the Library. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not relieve the borrower of the obligation to return the materials on time. It is the borrower's responsibility to notify the library of a change of address or other contact information.

Hold Requests

An item that is checked out may be requested and an "Item Hold" placed on it. When the item is returned, the patron requesting the item will be notified by phone or email and the item will be placed on the "Hold" shelf. The library will hold the item for the patron for one week after the notification.
