The purpose of the Library Internet Access Policy is to enhance and support the "Mission of Carteret Community College".
All students, faculty, staff, and public patrons are responsible for using CCC's Internet resources in an effective, ethical and lawful manner. Computers in
the library are intended to provide access to the library catalog, electronic library resources, the Internet, and Microsoft Office applications. They may be used to search for information, research term paper topics, and explore personal interests within the guidelines of the college's "Technology Acceptable Use Policy".
The library has IBM compatible computers with Windows XP, Internet
access, front USB ports and CD burning capabilities. There are also wireless laptops available for library use only. We are a
free, open-access library. CCC students, faculty and staff have priority in using Internet access for research and other acceptable uses.
Headphones are available for listening to CDs or viewing DVDs on the computers. Public patrons may access the Internet when computers are available. During busy hours, computer access may be limited to 30 minutes. CCC students have first priority for use of the library's resources.
Netiquette
CCC students, faculty, staff, and public patrons are expected to abide by generally accepted rules of network etiquette for e-mail
and computer usage. These include the following:
- Be polite
- Use appropriate language
- No pornography or offensive materials
- No chat rooms or games
Word Processing
All computers in the library have word processing programs. Users should have a prior knowledge of the software programs available - MS
Office 2003, MS Office 2007 & MS Word Perfect. It is strongly recommended that users supply their own storage media to save their work.
The library has 31/2 floppy disks at $.50 and CD-RWs at $1.00 for sale at the Circulation Desk.
Printing
Users may print out their work on the laser printers located at the Circulation Desk. The cost is $.10 per page for black & white and
$.50 per page for color. All prints out must be picked up and paid for at the Circulation Desk. If you need assistance, please inquire
at the Information Desk before printing.
Scanners
There are four computers in the library with scanners. If you need assistance with the operation of a scanner please inquire at the
Information Desk. These scanners have Adobe PDF & photo editing software.
Laptops & Wireless
Personal laptops are welcome in the library and while the library does have wireless access, for security reasons it is password-protected and only available to curriculum students, faculty and staff on a personal laptop. The carrels down the reference aisle are equipped with electrical outlets for connecting your laptop. Ethernet cords are available at the Circulation Desk and 2 ports are located in the central part of the library.
The library has 32 Windows XP laptops that are Internet accessible through our wireless network for library use only by student patrons with a CCC Library card. These laptops also have MS Office 2003 and MS Office 2007, as well as CD burning capabilities.
