Reference Services
Reference services are available at the Information
Desk whenever the library is open. The librarians assume
the role of educator whenever possible, not just supplying
the person with information, but teaching how to identify,
access, use, and evaluate information resources. The
goal is to develop independence in each library user.
The user is encouraged to return to the Information
Desk if he or she needs further assistance. If the
materials are not available in the CCC Library, the
librarian provides referral to another library or information
resource, or arranges for an Interlibrary loan.
Specifically, you can get from Reference Desk Services:
- Suggestions on a search strategy
- Instruction on information resources
- Help in locating information materials
- Referrals to other agencies and sources of information
- Answers to your questions!
Telephone Reference Services
Telephone reference service answers "ready-reference" questions
provided by telephone. These "ready-reference" types
of questions may include definitions of words, birth
and death dates of famous people, addresses of publishers,
dates of important events, specific book titles, specific
authors, etc. If a patron asks a question that requires
more in depth research, he or she is encouraged to
come into the library for a one-on-one consultation.
