Transfer Student Admissions & Awarding Credit

Carteret Community College serves its students and community by awarding appropriate academic transfer credit for course work completed at regionally accredited institutions of higher education and credit-by-examination in accordance with recommendations published by the American Council on Education (ACE) thus enabling degree, diploma, or certificate completion, while maintaining program integrity.

A transfer student must complete all admission requirements defined for their particular program, which include an application for admission stating a program of study and may include official transcripts from high school and/or college(s), and placement testing.

It is recommended that a student requests a transcript evaluation, either in writing or verbally.

Transfer credit is given for all college transfer coursework. Program specific coursework will be transferred upon evaluation by the coordinator.

Credit is awarded for academic work in which the student earned a grade of “C” or better. Grades do not transfer, and are not used when calculating a cumulative grade point average.

Credit gained through a life experience or proficiency testing, from an outside institution, will not transfer.

The sum total of all transfer course credit, accepted from outside institutions, cannot exceed 75 percent of the total number of semester hours for a program of study.

There are additional admission requirements for Health Science and Basic Law Enforcement Training. Refer to the College Catalog sections regarding selective admission for more detail. Only educational work completed at other regionally accredited institutions will be considered for transfer credit.
