Artist Statement

I am inspired by by strong art.
Art that grabs you, shakes you, spits in your face.
Art that hates you to look at it but invites you back again.

Post Impressionism captures me. Makes me want create quick, unforgiving strokes with a brush. Allows me to see my surroundings: to see inside them, behind them, and beyond them.

I enjoy seeing a tree- and seeing, not only greens and browns, but reds and purples.
And in the shadows, instead of grayscales, I see deep blues- color is in everything.

Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Gauguin are a source of awe and inspiration for me. I remember at a young age, seeing Starry Night, and being memorized.

Currently, Van Gogh's self portraits and Cezanne's landscapes stand out among my favorites. A generous use of expressive strokes, high color, high movement, and high emotion creates my love of painting.

My personal style has been virtually non-existent during schooling, as I felt the need to create what was expected. However, I see myself moving towards expressive representations, both in drawings and paintings. I want to capture simple yet striking views of nature/horizons/landscapes. I feel as though I have already started this in some charcoal drawings and in painting 2 studies.
