| Biography: |
Cathy Crowell is a teacher and photographic artist. She received her M.F.A. from Florida State University in 1982, where she was awarded a Visual Arts fellowship. She has actively exhibited her photographs in national and regional exhibits earning numerous awards, publishing credits and representation in public and private collections. Cathy was awarded an Emerging Artist Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council for a photographic project on family issues and recently completed a public arts commission. Presently, she is working on a documentary project based on her mother’s long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Cathy started as a Visiting Artist at Carteret Community College approximately 25 years ago. When her residency ended she identified a need for a photography program and worked to get the curriculum implemented. She is now Curriculum Area Coordinator for the Photographic Technology Program. Ms. Crowell has been an active supporter of the arts and photographic education on both the local and national level. She served on the Board of the Carteret Arts Council and as treasurer of the Society for Photographic Education.
