College Options for High School Students

Career and College Promise

Beginning Spring 2012, the North Carolina Career and College Promise will replace the Huskins, Concurrent Enrollment (Dual Enrollment) and Learn & Earn Online programs.
These programs offer three pathways designed to give motivated high school students a head start on your college and career training!

Career and College Promise Pathways

Carteret Community College offers the following two pathways:

  • Career Technical Education Pathway: If you are a junior or senior in a career cluster program at your high school, this pathway will give you the opportunity to enroll in a college-level Certificate Program that aligns with your high school program. To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
    • be a high school junior or senior
    • have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses or have the recommendation of the high school principal or designee
    • meet the prerequisites for the career pathway
  • College Transfer Pathway:If you are a junior or senior in a college prep program at your high school, this pathway will give you the opportunity to begin some of your core college transferrable courses required in the first year or most four-year an some two-year college degrees. To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
    • be a high school junior or senior
    • have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses
    • demonstrate college readiness in English, reading, and mathematics through an assessment or placement test as incdicated below:

Career and College Promise provides seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities for eligible North Carolina high school students in order to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees that lead to college transfer or provide entry-level job skills. Carteret Community College offers courses through the following Pathways:



Admission Requirements

  1. Click here to complete and submit a Carteret Community College application for admission including the intended Pathway(s) of study.
  2. Meet the State Career & College Promise eligibility requirements.
  3. Meet the Carteret Community College course requirements.
  4. Submit a completed dual enrollment form to Rick Hill in the Counseling Center, McGee Building room 119.
