Professional Bookkeeping Certificate
Get three in one! First, learn the principles of double-entry bookkeeping and master the basics of preparing financial statements. Analyze business transactions, prepare end-of-period worksheets and financial statements. Learn about adjusting and closing entries, accounts receivable/payable, specialized journals and ledgers. Second, learn about payroll accounting, income tax and sales tax, payroll taxes, deferred compensation arrangements, cafeteria plans, taxable and non-taxable benefits, payroll reporting requirements and payroll management. Certified Pool and Spa
This course introduces the North Carolina Swimming Pool regulations. Students will understand swimming pool calculations, chemistry, and filtration. This course is designed for individuals having responsibility for maintenance and operation of a swimming pool. Note: Must bring check payable to the National Swimming Pool Foundation for $30. Prepayment required.

Human Services Exploration: DSS Caseworker (Phase 1)
This course is the first of a two part training program designed to provide the skills needed to start a career in Human Services with an emphasis on employment with the NC Department of Social Services (DSS). Gain entry level skills required to become a DSS employee, as well as interview and resume skills, job search and workplace success skills, and customer service skills.

Income Maintenance Caseworker (Phase 2)
This course is the second of a two part training program designed to provide the skills needed to start a career in Human Services with an emphasis on employment with the NC Department of Social Services (DSS). This course serves as an introduction to entry-level landscaping with an emphasis on using materials native to Carteret County and eastern North Carolina. Students will learn how to create and maintain landscapes and hardscapes, learn about turfgrass, native grasses, shrubs and trees. Weed, pest and disease identification will be covered along with pest-control strategies. Safe operation of hand tools, power tools and other equipment will be taught along with training in sales, pricing and other aspects of the business to include customer communication and employment skills.

Local Government Finance
This course is intended to meet the NC Department of the State Treasurer standards for the core duties of finance operations in local government units. Topics include overview of local government finance and accounting, GS 159, the role of a finance officer, pre-audit and budget processes. This course must be taught with the NC Department of the State Treasurer approved curriculum.

Personal Trainer (ACSM)
Course helps you prepare to become a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Learn how to implement training plans using well developed programming methods to enhance muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and more. The instructor is a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, AFPA Nutrition & Wellness Consultant, NAMPFT Personal Trainer, Madd Dog Athletics certified, and has a Masters in the Science of Sports Medicine. This is a hybrid course so students must have internet access. Textbook: AMC Resources for the Personal Trainer
This class meets Monday through Friday the first week, then Wednesdays, 6 – 9 pm each week including the last Saturday of each month from 8am-5pm. This is a HYBRID class, which means that there is some classroom training and then there is training outside of the classroom online over the internet. Students should have regular access to the internet to take the class and should expect to spend 6 hours per week outside of the regular classroom completing online instruction.

Principles of Leadership
This class is designed for new and emerging leaders of businesses or organizations. Those with little or no experience in an organizational leadership role will develop the skills and tools necessary to be an effective and high performance manager, supervisor or team leader. Modules include Leadership 101, Team Chemistry, The Toughest Supervisor Challenges, Effective Listening Skills, Developing Positive Relationships at Work, and Developing Your Leadership Style.

Professional Wedding and Event Planning
From creating event concepts and planning ceremony details to handling vendor contracts, learn the professional processes used to make a couple’s dream wedding or any special event or party a success. Includes practice assignments geared toward starting a business in the industry. Develop items including client contracts, service packages, and client profiling forms that can be put to use immediately in your new career. Templates and real-life examples. Students that successfully complete the training will also have the opportunity to intern for hands-on experience in wedding and special event planning. Instructor is Rachel Garton.
